The Weight Room Is What I Turn To

Sometimes things don’t go your way. Your athletic endeavors, school, job, relationship, or any other aspect of life in

general just don’t come out as you would’ve hoped. It happens to us all. You can be the best in your sport or on the

bottom of your sport. It doesn’t matter. Things just go wrong sometimes. Things can go even more wrong than just

wrong. You know what I talking about. Just when you think everything that could possibly of gone wrong, something

else is nailing you in the side of your head you didn’t even think about. Now I’m not trying to be negative. That’s the

last thing I want to do. What I’m trying to get at is I use the weight room as my excuse to forget about the things that

go wrong in my life. Let me explain a little further into detail…

Not everyone lives a fairy-tail life. Things happen. The important thing is, is how you recover from the negative

things that happen in life to get yourself back onto your feet. When I was growing up, sports and fitness kept me out of

trouble. Along with sports and fitness came the weight room. I made this place a second home to me. There were

neighbor kids that I grew up with up until the 6th grade or so that I was pretty tight with that fell off in the wrong

direction. When I was old enough to play football and get more serious about wrestling, those sports gave me the

direction I needed to keep me out of trouble. There were a lot of ways to get into trouble where I grew up. It wasn’t

the Bronx or anything but drugs and other things were around. My friends that I mentioned earlier, they didn’t do

athletics or anything fitness wise that would have brought them into the weight room. They didn’t even graduate high

school. There were a lot of things negative going for them and when it came down to picking their selves up, instead of

having fitness or athletics or lifting weights to carry them through the bad times, they chose drugs or other means.

I’m not saying lifting weights or athletics are the cure to all people’s problems, I’m saying lifting weights, and athletics

are a dang good alternative and they sure do help! There were times when my parents or girlfriend would piss me off

so bad, instead of going out and drinking, doing drugs, or something else stupid, I’d take it out on the weights. It felt

good! When I get into the workout, my mind goes into a whole other dimension. I get to release all the stress and

frustration out on the iron! It’s a little crazy at times. I probably had some of my best workouts ever when I was upset

or stressed out. Anger can do a lot to a weight room, no doubt. But it worked. Maybe it didn’t solve all of my

problems , but it got rid of the stress I had at the time, put me in a better position to handle my problems and

probably most importantly, got me stronger both physically and mentally. Instead of regretting doing some drugs or

getting smashed to forget about something bad, I actually gained something in return. STRENGTH. So just remember

when your times are tough and things are going bad, there’s always somewhere to turn that’ll give you something in

return. That’s the weight room. What or where ever your’s may be – your garage, your high school, YMCA, some

small dungeon in the center of the earth, commercial gym. Just know that this is a place that doesn’t care about your

problems or successes. The only thing it cares about is what you give it. So use this to your advantage. Find more

excuses to make it into the weight room. Who knows how strong you’ll get. In the meantime, stay Forged Strong!
